Happy July! Or should I say... Happy Lakes Appreciation Month!!
We all love our lake, so this month show it some extra love. There's so many things you can do to appreciate Lake Ronkonkoma this month.
- Paddle around the lake
- Pick up plastic and other litter on the beach
- Schedule to have your sanitary system inspected and pumped
- Bird watch (just don't feed them, it's not very good for them or the lake!)
- Take photos and share them on social media with #LakesAppreciation ... Follow NALMS on Facebook and Twitter!
Be sure to check out the LIISMA event (a Long Island organization dedicated to the monitoring, education, and prevention of invasive species). For more info on this organization, check out their website. Invasive species awareness week is July 8th through 14th, and LIISMA will be holding a variety of events throughout the week. Check out the Aquatic Invasive Workshop on the shores of Lake Ronkonkoma by the site of the old Bavarian Inn, July 14th from 10 AM to 4 PM. Here you will learn to distinguish between invasive and native plants, the biology and life cycle of invasives, and the ecological impacts of invasives.
